RIDE 3 News Conference
Opportunity for Horry County voters to say YES to county road repairs and construction
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A news conference to encourage support of RIDE 3, Horry County's proposed road-building program, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at Highway 22 and 17 Interchange Boat Ramp.
RIDE 3, Horry County’s proposed road-building program, is a referendum that will allow Horry County residents to take action in addressing the county's road needs. The RIDE 3 program consists of 15 vital road repair and construction projects throughout all of Horry County. The projects were put forth by the RIDE 3 Commission, a council of six representatives from throughout Horry County, and approved by Horry County Council. If passed, RIDE 3 would be funded by an 8-year, 1 percent tax on retail sales, prepared food and beverages, and accommodations, thus placing the majority of the costs on tourists rather than residents. Groceries, fuel and prescription medications are exempt from RIDE 3.
Projected RIDE 3 revenues and subsequent cost of the road projects total roughly $592 million. Under county law, RIDE 3 funding may only be spent on road repair and construction from the list of 15 approved projects and expires after 8 years.
The Citizens for Better Roads is a collaborative effort supporting the RIDE 3 referendum, made up of the following organizations:
• American Resort Development Association
• Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors
• Grand Strand Business Alliance
• Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce
• Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association
• North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce
