MEDIA STATEMENT
In response to the recent news of the confirmed cases of the Zika virus in Florida, Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement:
"Thankfully there are currently no known cases of Zika in the Myrtle Beach area, but today’s news of the first case of the virus found to be transmitted via infected mosquitoes within the continental U.S. is cause for everyone, particularly travelers, to be diligent about protecting themselves and their families by understanding the dangers and the symptoms associated with this public health concern. Because it is possible to unknowingly carry the disease, we urge travelers who may have been exposed to err on the side of caution and consult their doctor. We are pleased that our local governments recognize the serious nature of this threat and have made the safety of residents and visitors their top priority."
