MEDIA STATEMENT
In response to Huntington Beach State Park Nature Center fire, Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement:
“Today brought the sad news that a lightning strike caused a devastating fire at Huntington Beach State Park. Our thoughts are with the broken-hearted volunteers and supporters of the Nature Center, where the fire spread so quickly that animals could not be saved. Huntington is a special place where thousands of visitors have made lifelong memories. With its prime location, passionate staff and close proximity to Brookgreen Gardens, it is one of the Grand Strand's most historic and popular attractions. We are devastated by the loss of this state-owned treasure but relieved that no staff, volunteers or visitors were injured. We have been assured that beach access will soon be reopened. Knowing the unwavering commitment SCPRT, our state tourism agency, has for state parks, we expect that many people will be committed to the rebuilding and restoration of this historic attraction.”
