The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach to Host the Victorian Kookaburras from Melbourne, Australia at Surf’s Up Tournament in July
World-Class Baseball Facility seeking “Myrtle Beach Ambassadors” as Host Families for International Youth Players
Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach today announced that it will play host to The Victorian Kookaburras baseball team from Melbourne, Australia at its annual Surf’s Up Tournament the week of July 10-15. The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach is also seeking assistance from the local community, as it is currently searching for 19 host families to help accommodate the 38 players from three teams, one 14U and two 16U, and serve as ambassadors for Myrtle Beach during their trip.
“Australian teams have participated in our tournaments for the past five summer seasons,” said Bobby Holland, General Manager of The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach. “This serves as a great opportunity for the domestic teams present that week to face international competition. The Australian teams typically display unprecedented sportsmanship during the tournament, as The Kookaburras are the epitome of what travel baseball and good sportsmanship is all about.”
The Victorian Kookaburras touring team, which includes players from the city of Melbourne and the regional town of Mildura, will travel more than 30 hours from the State of Victoria in Australia to reach Myrtle Beach. The tour is focused around baseball participation, friendship and cultural exploration for the players and families traveling with the team.
“For these young Australian baseball players the opportunity to come and play baseball in the USA is an amazing opportunity for them to develop skills on and off the diamond,” said Team Executive Officer for the Victorian Kookaburras Myles Foreman. “While the baseball aspect of the tour is a key part of the overall opportunity and experience, this would not be possible without the amazing hospitality and generosity of Myrtle Beach families who open their homes to these Aussie kids.”
