Art Garfunkel live at The Calvin Gilmore Theater July 17:
Folk-rock Legend, Singer, Songwriter, and Grammy Award-Winner
July 17, Art Garfunkel will appear as the first artist in the second season of the Myrtle Beach Performing Arts series at The Calvin Gilmore Theater. Hailed by the New York Times as a “beautiful countertenor,” the legendary singer has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. He has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry and released 12 solo albums, the most recent being Some Enchanted Evening in 2007. Garfunkel was originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner and fellow NYC native Paul Simon. Their greatest hits collection, which includes “Mrs. Robinson”, “Scarborough Fair”, “The Sound of Silence”, “The Boxer” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, among others, is one of the best-selling albums of all time. In this intimate show, that features Art Garfunkel and a guitarist, you’ll hear poetry, stories, and his greatest hits both solo and originally recorded with Simon and Garfunkel.
In addition to Garfunkel, also booked for the second season are the Five Irish Tenors and the much-awaited return of Garrison Keillor. In a sensational program featuring famously beloved Irish classics like “Danny Boy”, The Five Irish Tenors fuse Irish wit and boisterous charm, with lyricism, dramatic flair and operatic style to bring you a unique Irish tenor concert experience. Garrison Keillor, renowned writer, actor and radio personality, is probably best known for his award-winning radio series A Prairie Home Companion. With a wonderful, dry sense of humor, Keillor captivates audiences using his unique blend of comedy, class, charisma and wisdom.
