Carla Schuessler Appointed Board Chair of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Carla Schuessler, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Horry County, has been elected board chair for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC), beginning January 1, 2018, for a one-year term.
Originally from Chicago, Schuessler relocated to the Myrtle Beach area in 1997. She graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. In addition to her duties at Habitat, Schuessler has served on the MBACC board for three years. She also currently serves on the boards for both the South Carolina Association of Habitat Affiliates and the Grand Strand Housing and Community Development Corporation. Carla is a graduate of Leadership Grand Strand Class 29, has served on the LGS Board of Regents and is the most recent recipient of the prestigious Ann DeBock Leadership Award.
“Carla has an unwavering commitment to making the Grand Strand community a better place to live and work,” said Todd Setzer, current board chair of the MBACC. “Whether it’s helping families’ one-on-one through her role as executive director of Habitat for Humanity or through her volunteer service on numerous boards and committees, she conveys the characteristics of a committed and caring leader.”
“Being involved with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has been an amazing experience,” said Schuessler. “Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside the most passionate and influential members of this community. It is truly an honor to be a member of the Chamber and to serve as the next Board Chair, following in the footsteps of so many that I admire and respect. Together with leaders of the business community and local organizations, the dedicated and talented Chamber staff under the tireless leadership of Brad Dean has continued to develop and grow tourism to the benefit of all that live, work and visit the Myrtle Beach area! I look forward to serving in this capacity as we together continue to promote, protect and improve the entire Grand Strand Community!”
