Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County has partnered with families to allow them to purchase safe, decent & affordable housing with interest free mortgages. Habitat is dedicated to the elimination of sub-standard housing. Habitat does NOT give houses away. Volunteers provide most of the labor and individual, church, and corporate donors provide funding and materials to build Habitat houses. Habitat partners with families and individuals selected for the Home Buyer Program through a rigorous application process. Families that purchase a Habitat home must complete over 200 hours of sweat equity per adult and 25-100 hours per child based on age. All families attend home buyer education classes on a monthly basis. Habitat homes are sold to families and individuals at no profit and financed with no interest mortgages. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat homes within the Horry County community.
