Ribbon Cutting Ceremony:
Myrtle Beach Airport Quiet Room

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Champion Autism Network (CAN), the Horry County Airport Administration and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce invite you to celebrate the official opening of the new Myrtle Beach International Airport Quiet Room on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

The addition of the Quiet Room – located in the baggage claim area of the airport – makes Myrtle Beach International Airport one of only two airports in the country to support families with children on the autism spectrum and other disabilities.

“This is a wonderful partnership and a victory for families of children with autism who are vacationing in our area,” said Becky Large, executive director of the Champion Autism Network. “This room provides a safe and fun environment for children on the autism spectrum and a caregiver to relax and decompress after a flight while family members retrieve their baggage and rental car.”

Guest Speakers at the event include Congressman Tom Rice and Horry County Council Chairman, Mark Lazarus, as well as Tyler Servant, Horry County Vice Chairman and Brad Dean, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

About Champion Autism Network

CAN is a movement that aims to increase Autism Awareness and provide support to families effected by Autism. The mission is to reduce challenges and barriers to allow families with a child with Autism to have a “normal” family outing or experience, reducing sensory input and creating inviting environments for children with Autism, their parents and siblings, including having Surfside Beach SC named the First Autism Friendly Travel Destination anywhere.

About Autism

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders – Autism Spectrum Disorders. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by communication difficulties, social and behavioral challenges, and repetitive behaviors. An estimated 1 in 68 children in the U.S. is on the Autism Spectrum and that number is increasing.
