Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes to Model Fashion Design for Compassion Through Fashion Event to Benefit New Directions
New Directions for Men, Women, and Families will hold a fundraiser Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 7pm – 9pm in the Oleander Ballroom at Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort at Grande Dunes, 8400 Costa Verde Dr., Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. An exclusive reception for VIP ticketholders will precede the event from 6pm – 7pm in the same location. Tickets for the event may be purchased by visiting the Compassion Through Fashion event site http://bit.ly/compassionthroughfashion. General admission - $25. VIP reception - $50. Light hors d’oeuvres along with cash bar will be available with General admission.
Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes will be modeling a fashion design made by Franklin G. Burroughs & Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum during the Compassion Through Fashion event. His fashion will be a tribute to one of the art museum’s upcoming exhibits. The Compassion Through Fashion event is a fun fashion show that will feature inventive, original fashion ensembles from local designers using a specific list of unusual materials. Some of the qualifying materials to be used include plastic spoons, straws, LED lights, rubber gloves, puzzle pieces, and ping pong balls. This event will raise funds to assist New Directions in providing the tools and resources needed to move people out of poverty and homelessness.
New Directions is a non-profit 501c3 organization that operates four homeless shelters in Myrtle Beach. New Directions works to move people out of poverty and homelessness by helping them regain their financial footing, self-worth and self-confidence, and helping them to move into permanent housing and achieve self-sufficiency. “Compassion Through Fashion will raise funding to accelerate the New Directions ‘Back to Work, Back to Life’ program which is decreasing our homeless population, helping people regain confidence and independence, and improving our community,” said Tommy Starling, Fundraising Chair and board member.
