New 100,000 SQ. FT. Sports Facility Hosted 40 Events Totaling Over $25 Million Dollars in Estimated Direct Spending to the Myrtle Beach Area
Myrtle Beach, SC, March 7, 2016– The Myrtle Beach Sports Center (MBSC), managed by Sports Facilities Advisory and Sports Facilities Management (SFA/SFM) opened its doors on March 7, 2015. In the first year of operation the facility hosted over 48,000 participants and nearly 230,000 attendees to a wide variety of events including basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, pickle ball, cheer, dance and various expos. The Myrtle Beach Sports Center is also utilized during weekdays for several recreational leagues, sports academies and travel teams in the area.
City of Myrtle Beach Sports Tourism Director Tim Huber, said “The opening of the Myrtle Beach Sports Center has had a very positive impact – in fact, exceeding projections- on the City’s sports tourism initiative. In addition to $12 million estimated direct spending increase resulting from new basketball, volleyball and cheer events, the Sports Center has received overwhelmingly enthusiastic feedback from event owners, athletes and spectators. The result being growth in tournaments that previously were spread out amongst facilities throughout the destination.”
The Myrtle Beach Sports Center operates as a full-service facility by providing computerized ticketing, concessions, event coordination, and lodging services. Additionally, the facility provides staffing for each event operator through a partnership with Horry Georgetown Technical College and their Sports Tourism Program. This allows the event owner to focus on sales, competition and performances of their participants while the MBSC handles all front and back of house issues.
National Travel Basketball Association President/Founder John Whitley, said “Having had tournaments now in 18 states across the country, the Myrtle Beach Sports Center is by far the best facility in the country! From the amenities to the staff, this facility is truly first class. We get nothing but positive feedback from our teams on how great this facility really is.”
